Chris Hemsworth returns as the Odinson facing new enemies out of classic comics canon and a fellow Avenger!
Watch, marvel and come back for a breakdown:
Cate Blanchett is Hela, Goddess of the Underworld in Norse mythology who appears to crush Mjolnir and sends the Odinson to Sakaar, an alien world and home to gladiator games.
Tessa Thompson is Valkyrie. In Norse mythology these warrior women are choosers of the slain who carry the fallen to the afterlife. In comics Valkyrie fought with the Defenders and Secret Avengers. The big mystery is how this noble warrior woman is working as a hunter of gladiators on an alien planet.
Jeff Goldblum is the Grandmaster. In comics this alien overlord pits heroes and villains against each other in Contest of Champions. Grandmaster and Collector (seen in Guardians of the Galaxy) are Elders of the Universe.
Karl Urban is Skurge the Executioner, a classic Thor brawler.
HULK in a Thor movie? This film’s story takes inspiration from Planet Hulk, in which the Green Goliath crashed on a planet, enslaved and forced to compete in Gladiator games.
Loki? When last we saw the trickster he was impersonating Odin on the Asgardian throne. He appears to be in league with Grandmaster at watching the main event.
Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange will make an appearance in the film following Thor’s cameo in the Strange post-credits scene.
Taika Waititi directed the Odinson’s third solo film.
Thor: Ragnarok arrives November 3rd.
