The Consultant sounds like a cool comic book. It’s Mark Millar’s new job. His clients are Marvel’s big screen superheroes controlled by Fox (X-Men, Fantastic Four, Wolverine.) The Superhero Movie Consultant is talking about his new role and his excitement for the sequel to X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughn who directed the film based on Millar’s Kick-Ass. The sequel is based on the classic Chris Claremont/John Byrne two-parter Days of Future Past.
Millar tells SFX “Vaughn is going for a big sci-fi style thing with X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
He teased the plot, calling it “X-Men meets The Terminator“.
“You’ve got robots, you’ve got time travel, you’ve got superheroes – it’s got everything in one film.”
He also said that it is “no spoiler on [his] part” to say that the film goes into an apocalyptic future.
Millar explained how his job will meld the heroic franchises into one cinematic universe to SFX.
“Fox have said that they want to build a cohesive universe and I’d personally like this to work in complement to the Marvel one. It would be cool if these universes didn’t contradict each other so if you went to see Spidey, The Avengers, the X-Men, etc, as a viewer you would have no idea that all three are coming from different studios. I’d love to make it look like they’re all just happening in one place.
“I don’t think it’s something anyone would want to rush into. Following that Marvel model, we want to establish things first. If you had a Fantastic Four relaunch, and Wolverine and the X-Men were in it, I think it would distract you from the Fantastic Four. You can make people aware that they’re existing in the same universe without making it a big crossover movie but it would be an injustice to the Fantastic Four not to make their first movie all about them.”

Op/Ed:
I’m hoping Days of Future Past could include Hugh Jackman as Logan of the future leading the mutant resistance against the Sentinels (I assume that’s the Terminator reference Millar makes above ) and the film could reboot the X-Men franchise – like the recent Star Trek film.
