Fans are frothing or fuming after the announcement of Marvel NOW! revealed in Entertainment Weekly. I don’t have it on record but I did chat with fellow friends about how Jonathan Hickman would be great at Avengers: The Galaxy’s Mightiest Heroes. I love the big scale epics like the Korvac Saga, Kree-Skrull War and Operation Galactic Storm. I’d like think Alonso, Brevoort and company are telepathic and now we have a new Avengers by Hickman.
Hickman tells ET his first arc is called Avengers World but it you’ve read his Fantastic Four and SHIELD books you know the world is not enough.
“The obvious solution is for the heroes to become something bigger and larger, a more appropriate response to an ever more dangerous time,” he tells EW.
Avengers will be published twice a month starting in December with Jerome Opena (Uncanny X-Force) on art. Hickman plans to mix together longer five-to-six-issue story arcs with one-off stories that focus on solo characters. Hickman revealed one teammate: Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu.
And with that reveal alone: I’m IN!
I highly recommend Manhattan Projects from Image Comics. This is Hickman’s twisted alternative history for readers that want to be challenged and not afraid of graphic violence.
