Duane Swiercynzki and artist Nelson Daniel are ready to face judgement as the creative team on a new Judge Dredd series from IDW Publishing.

“I’d like IDW’s Dredd to feel like a transgressive sci-fi black comedy police procedural — like ‘Law & Order,’ if, say, Jerry Orbach were a violent inflexible fascist. “Someone who readers can’t help but root for, since he’s up against overwhelming odds in a city gone insane,” the Birds of Prey and Bloodshoot writer tells Comic Book Resources.

The writer says these stories will be set in the past ”covering untold tales from the earlier days of Dredd’s career,” Swierczynski said. “Though rest assured, this ain’t Li’l Joe Dredd. He’s no rookie; he’s been serving up justice on the mean streets of Mega-City One for quite some time.”

Dredd fans have more reasons to cheer at SD Comicon. Along with a new comic book series came a free preview screening of the new film from Lionsgate. Karl Urban was there to introduce the film the fans

“I hope you like your films dark and gritty,” Urban said to cheers of approval according to The Hollywood Reporter Heat Vision. “I want to apologize to anyone who’s a fan of lycra and gold codpieces — you’re just going to have to wait for two hours.”

The new film follows the 2000 A.D. series more than the 1995 Stallone version.
