One of my favorite DC heroines is coming to the new series Arrow on The CW. Jessica De Gouw will play the Huntress in a multi-episode arc according to Entertainment Weekly.
The Huntress is a vigilante, starred in her own series, has been a member of Birds of Prey and part of the Batman family. Helena Bertinelli is the daughter of a mafia boss out for revenge when her family is wiped out.
Here’s the official character description:
“Helena is a potential love interest for Oliver Queen; a fellow vigilante, set on destroying her father’s organized crime empire. But Helena’s blind pursuit of revenge will put her on a collision course with the Arrow.”
The Huntress will arrive in Starling City in episode six according to EW.
Batman’s world is filled with dangerous, resourceful women including Catwoman, Batwoman, Batgirl, Talia Al Ghul but one avenging angel I love is co-starring in her own comic book series and will appear opposite Green Arrow on television.
The Huntress recently starred in her own mini-series seeking justice and stalking a mobster in Italy. DC Comics The Source shared scenes from Huntress #5 in which Helena assaulted an ancient monastery guarded by the Italian military.” This was the penultimate issue of her solo adventure but a new Huntress story is just beginning in DC Comics The New 52..
The Huntress and Power Girl of Earth 2 are starring in a new World’s Finest – part of DC Comics The New 52 Second Wave. On Earth 2 Helena is Batman and Catwoman’s daughter. Paul Levitz, George Perez and Kevin Maguire will chronicle the duo’s mission to return home.
The Huntress has one of my favorite costumes in comics and with a compelling back story making her a great anti-heroine.
I’m thrilled to Helena on television and hope she may appear in a Batman movie some day.
