Oscar-winning writer/producer John Ridley (12 Years A Slave, American Crime) is teaming up with Marvel to develop a new television series according to Entertainment Weekly. The project will “reinvent an existing superhero or property for ABC.”

Marvel/ABC is already developing a possible Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff. Daredevil is the first of four (AKA Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist) new Marvel/Netflix series that will lead into The Defenders series.

Which Marvels will be reinvented by the acclaimed producer?

Most likely suspects:

Deathlok? Several men have been the killer cyborg turned anti-hero. J. August Richards played a new character (Mike Peterson) transformed on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and recently came back to the show. Ridley could focus on one of earlier versions Luther Manning, Michael Collins who were manipulated by Roxxon, the “go-to” evil corporation in Marvel Comics. Henry Hayes is the most recent Deathlok in comic by Nathan Edmondson.

Punisher? After three films with three actors in three time periods, Frank Castle is one Marvel anti-hero ready for reinvention. Ridley and The Punisher could be the perfect mix of violence and drama for another Netflix series but I can’t see this Castle on ABC.

Ms. Marvel? Kamala Khan is a breakout success. The young Inhuman is a New Jersey teen of Pakistani descent and one of the first Muslim characters to headline a mainstream comic book series. Kamala took the former code-name of her hero Carol Danvers who became Captain Marvel.

What we really want:

Cloak & Dagger? One of the most beloved duos in comics who make welcome comebacks every few years but then fade away. Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen were runaways on the streets of New York City captured and exposed to a synthetic new form of heroin that triggered their powers. The origin was later retconned that drug ignited latent mutant powers. Cloak has the power of teleportation and access to the “darkforce” dimension while Dagger could generate “daggers” of light, heal and purge addictions with her light. If Cloak & Dagger happens expect them to be Inhumans instead.

Cloak & Dagger fought the mob, drug dealers and became defenders of runaway children. These two beloved characters have a extensive fan base and could easily be reinvented as dark, gritty heroes for a new generation.

Which hero do you want to be reinvented by the acclaimed John Ridley?
