New mutants will be appearing in the Marvel Now according to the preview for X-Men Legacy #3. Professor X’s son is taking over as the lead character in this brand new version apparently carrying on his father’s legacy. In the solicitation Legion goes to Japan to save newly manifested mutant twins being exploited by a criminal cartel.
These would be the first new mutants since the Five Lights appeared at the end of Second Coming. Those kids went to star in the now cancelled Generation Hope – sigh. Those five were the first mutants to manifest since the Scarlet Witch decimation and declaration “No More Mutants” at the end of House of M.
This tease makes me suspect the conclusion of Avengers vs. X-Men and final battle with the Phoenix Force will ignite the declining mutant race (Cyke was right!) Scarlet Witch will survive to star in Uncanny Avengers. No indications on if Hope will live on but The END teaser for AvX #12 makes me think she will yank the Phoenix Force from Scott in the final battle.
Mutant twins do not have a good track record! Remember Fenris – the Von Strucker twins? Bad…very bad.
