Joss Whedon just astonished the world with this big screen version of Marvel’s The Avengers. Just a few years ago Whedon was the writer of Astonishing X-Men. Now Whedon’s mutant era will become a series of novels by Peter David.
Whedon and artist John Cassaday were the team on Astonishing X-Men #1-#24 from 2004-2008. Whedon recently commented on how writing the X-Men was “geek fulfillment” because it gave him a chance to write Kitty Pryde, saying that the popular X-Man was the mother of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer.”
Astonishing X-Men: Gifted based on Whedon’s opening arc of the same name will arrive September 5th. Thanks to Digital Spy for the story.
I’m a huge fan of Peter David’s epic run on The Incredible Hulk series and his Star Trek: New Frontier novels.
If you love the adventure and romance of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and The Hunger Games I think you will enjoy the upcoming novels based on Whedon’s run given the focus is on Kitty Pryde and Colossus.
The Gifted storyline was part of the story in X-Men: The Last Stand film introducing Dr. Kavita Ro and a “cure” for mutants.
